What do the ETL and DOE marks actually cover?

ETL is a North American electrical safety listing carried out by a recognised testing laboratory. DOE is the US Department of Energy, whose programme also defines the SACC test that gives the 6,000 BTU figure on this unit. Both marks appear on the manufacturer's own artwork for this model.

How do I lock the controls?

The child lock is on the touch panel and freezes the buttons once set. The remote can still reach the unit, which is the point: you keep control and small hands do not.

Does it need draining?

Usually not. It is self-evaporating, so most of the condensate leaves as vapour through the exhaust hose. When the weather is humid enough to beat that, the 650 ml tank catches the rest and a 25.5 inch drainage pipe is supplied for continuous running.
