Sweeping, not just blowing
The vanes turn 60 degrees across and tip 90 degrees up and down. Sweeping keeps a large room even rather than leaving a cold seat and a warm one. Fix them if you would rather the air went over your head and not across a desk.
Two screens, not one
Air enters through an upper and a lower filter screen before it meets the coil. Both pull out for a rinse. In a home with a dog or a cat, that is what keeps the coil from clogging and the cooling from fading halfway through August.

Whenever they look grey, which in a home with pets can be every few weeks in peak season. Both screens pull out, rinse under a tap and go back once dry. A blocked filter is the most common reason a portable unit seems to lose its cooling.
Which BTU rating matches my room?
The SACC figure, 7,000 BTU, which the maker matches to 350 sq ft. The 10,000 BTU ASHRAE number comes from a fixed lab test and, as Danby explains, runs higher than SACC for the same machine.
Can I stop the louvre sweeping?
Yes. The oscillation can be switched off and the vanes set by hand, which is what you want if the unit is near a desk or a bed.
Does the window kit fit a crank out window?
No. It suits hung and sliding windows up to 47 inches. Casement windows need a panel cut to the exact opening, since a sliding kit cannot seal that shape.
