Does it run on a normal household outlet?

Yes. The manufacturer specifies 115V at 60Hz drawing 7 A, which is a standard Canadian wall socket on a normal circuit. The cord is 5.6 ft, so place it within reach of an outlet rather than using a light duty extension lead.

Which BTU figure should I size my room from?

The SACC figure, 5,000 BTU. It is the seasonally adjusted rating, and Danby notes it comes out lower than the ASHRAE laboratory number for the same machine because it reflects real cooling season conditions.

Will the kit fit a crank out window?

No. It spans 25.5 to 47 inches on sliding and hung windows. Crank out casement windows need a panel cut to the exact opening, because a sliding kit cannot seal against that frame.

Is any assembly needed?

The manufacturer lists assembly as required, which means fitting the slider kit into the window and connecting the exhaust duct, adapter and connector. No tools are needed and nothing is fixed to the building.
