Where the dust stops

Air enters through a high density filter screen before it reaches the coil, which keeps hair and dust out of the machine. The louvre tips through 140 degrees vertically and turns 50 degrees across, so you can send air along a ceiling rather than at a chair.

Condensate is carried out as vapour through the exhaust hose, so most of the time there is nothing to empty.

Does self-evaporating mean no draining ever?

Not in every condition. In dry or moderate air most of the condensate leaves as vapour through the exhaust hose and you will not touch it. In a genuinely humid stretch more water arrives than the system can evaporate, which is what the 25.5 inch drainage pipe and the 650 ml tank are for.

Which capacity figure should I size from?

The SACC rating of 6,000 BTU, and the 350 sq ft coverage that goes with it. ASHRAE 10,000 BTU is measured under fixed lab conditions and Danby notes it is generally the higher of the two numbers for the same machine.

What window does the kit suit?

Sliding windows between 25.5 and 49.5 inches. Crank out casement windows need a panel cut for the exact opening, because a sliding kit cannot seal that frame properly.

How loud is it?

65 dB or under at full tilt, by the manufacturer's rating, which is around conversation level. Low fan speed and sleep mode are noticeably quieter.
