Twenty one hundred warm white LEDs on a seven foot frame, ten adjustable tips to every twig. This is a lighting piece shaped like a tree rather than a tree with lights added, and it stands on an 11 inch weighted cement base moulded to look like a cut tree ring. The cord runs 16.4 ft.

A pre-lit tree looks the same as every other one

A conventional seven foot tree with a warm white string is a known quantity. It does the job, and nobody stops in the doorway to look at it.

Light as the whole structure

With 2100 LEDs spread across ten tips on every twig, the shape is made of light rather than lit from outside. At seven feet that fills a wall, and it works the same way for a wedding, a shop window or a hallway in February.

This is the largest of the three alpine cedars in the range, and the numbers scale with it: more than twice the bulbs of the five foot version on a wider, heavier base.

How the three sizes compare

Laid out together the pattern is clear. This is the 7 ft: 2100 LEDs on an 11 inch base, against 1500 and 1000 on the smaller two. The power cord stays 16.4 ft across the range, which is generous at any size.

What ten tips per twig means

The inset shows a single twig ending in ten fine lit tips. Multiply that across the tree and you get 2100 points of light rather than a string threaded through foliage. The manufacturer notes the LEDs run cool to the touch.

The base, and the advice on it

The base is cement filled with a moulded tree ring pattern on top. The manufacturer's own note is printed on this image: indoor use is recommended, and heavy objects on the base are advised to prevent tipping. At seven feet that is worth doing.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used outdoors, as in the photographs?

The manufacturer recommends indoor use in its own product note, even though one image shows the tree on a porch. Health Canada advises keeping indoor rated decorations indoors, so we would not put it out in the weather.

Is 2100 lights too bright for a living room?

It is a bright tree by design, and no dimmer or mode control is described in the record. If you want a lower level in a small room, the five foot version with 1000 LEDs is the gentler option.

How stable is it at seven feet?

The base is weighted cement, 11 inches across, and the manufacturer still advises placing heavy objects on it to prevent tipping. Follow that if there are children or pets around.
