Each tree stands four feet tall including its pot, which measures 7.5 inches square and 10 inches high, and spreads three feet at the widest branches. That is a properly full little tree rather than a slim one, so a pair needs a doorway or a hearth with room either side.

180 tips, heavily flocked

The flocking on these is thick rather than dusted, so the trees read white with green showing through underneath. Below the foliage each sits in a vintage style flowerpot with iridescent panels, which means no stand to hide and no skirt to buy.

100 LEDs, switchable colour

A hundred bulbs per tree, and the colour is not fixed. The manufacturer's three panel comparison shows the same branches in multicolour, in cool blue and in warm tones, which is a more useful guide than any bulb count when you are matching a tree to a doorway.

Symmetry is the reason to buy two. Either side of a front door a flocked pair reads from the street in a way a single tree does not, and the timer means they come on at dusk without anyone doing anything.

Can they stand outside?

The manufacturer photographs them either side of a front door in snow, and the trees are described for indoor and outdoor decoration. No ingress or weather rating is published, so we would keep them on a covered porch rather than in open weather, and keep the adapter connection dry.

What are the 8 lighting modes?

The manufacturer names combination, in wave and slo glo among them but does not list all eight, so we do not invent the rest. All are selected from the remote or the light controller on the cord.

What colours do the lights do?

The manufacturer's own panel shows the same branches in multicolour, in a cool blue and in a warm tone, so the colour is switchable rather than fixed. It does not state how many colour settings there are, so we do not give a number.

Will the flocking come off?

Some will, mostly while you are spreading the branches the first time. Lay a sheet down and vacuum once afterwards. It settles down sharply after the first season.

Does each tree have its own remote and adapter?

The manufacturer lists a remote and a light controller for the product but does not state whether each tree has its own set, so we cannot promise two of each. Ask us and we will check with the supplier.

How many pairs of gloves are included?

One pair for the set, which is what the record says rather than one pair per tree.
