Why does the listing give two BTU numbers?

They come from two different tests of the same machine. ASHRAE 8,000 BTU is measured in fixed laboratory conditions. SACC 5,300 BTU is the newer seasonally adjusted rating, which Danby notes is generally lower because it accounts for the temperature and humidity of a real cooling season. Size your room from the SACC figure.

How often does it need draining?

It depends on the humidity in the room, not on the machine. Dry indoor air produces almost nothing. Humid weather produces steadily, and the supplied 25.5 inch hose lets it run away rather than collecting in the unit.

Does it fit a crank out window?

No. The kit covers hung and sliding windows up to 47 inches. Casement and crank out windows need a panel made to the opening, because a sliding kit cannot seal against that frame.

Is it loud?

The manufacturer rates it at 55 dB or under. That is below normal conversation. Running the fan on low and using sleep mode both bring it down further.
