Is 9,000 BTU really different from 8,000?

On the SACC scale this one is rated 6,000 BTU against 5,000 for most 8,000 BTU units in the same range, and the coverage goes from 250 to 280 sq ft. That is a real but modest step, and it matters most in a room with a lot of afternoon sun.

What are the two drainage outlets for?

One under the cabinet for occasional manual draining and one on the back for the supplied 2 ft hose, which drains continuously by gravity. Which you use depends on whether there is somewhere for the water to go.

How humid does it have to be before I need to drain it?

There is no fixed answer, because it tracks the room. In dry indoor air a portable unit can run for days with almost nothing to empty. In sticky weather a machine this size can pull several pints an hour, which is when the continuous hose is worth having connected.

What windows does it suit?

Sliding windows with an opening between 25.5 and 47 inches. Crank out casement windows need a custom panel, as the sliding kit supplied cannot seal against that type of frame.
