What exactly does sleep mode change?

Three things. The display lights go off, the set temperature rises 1.8 F each hour, and the unit shuts itself down after twelve hours. That matches the way a room and a sleeping body both cool through the night.

Is 10,000 BTU or 6,000 BTU the number to size from?

6,000 BTU, the SACC figure, which is what the 350 sq ft coverage is based on. ASHRAE 10,000 BTU comes from a fixed laboratory test, and Danby notes SACC is generally lower for the same machine because it reflects a real cooling season.

How much water does it remove?

Dry mode is rated at 51 pints, or 24 litres, a day. What you actually collect depends on how humid the room is. Fit the 2.1 ft drain hose for continuous drainage if you are running it through a damp stretch.

Can the window kit handle a crank out window?

No. It covers sliding windows, vertical or horizontal, from 25.5 to 47 inches. Casement and crank out windows need a panel cut to the opening, since a sliding kit cannot seal against that frame.
