Three modes and when each belongs

Continuous is for a space that is damp all the time, like a bathroom or an unfinished basement, and it runs without waiting for a target. Drying mode is for a rail of wet clothes indoors. Auto holds whatever level you set between 30% and 80% and idles the rest of the time, which is the mode a living room should be in.

Five buttons, and one worth writing down

Mode, minus, display, plus, power. That is the whole interface, which is a relief on a machine that will spend months doing the same job. The one thing not printed on the panel: press plus and minus together to reach the 24 hour timer.

Only 8 pints a day? Is that enough?

Eight pints is measured on the 2019 DOE test at 65F and 60% relative humidity, which is deliberately a modest condition. In a genuinely damp basement in July the same machine is working closer to its 25 or 32 pint figures. The DOE number exists so you can compare models honestly, not because the machine only ever removes eight pints. Every brand's unit drops by roughly the same proportion on that test.

How do I set the timer?

Press the plus and minus keys at the same time. That takes you into timing, and from there the same keys set the hours up to 24. It is the only function not printed on the panel.

What humidity should I aim for?

Health Canada advises keeping a home between 30% and 50% relative humidity, and running a dehumidifier in damp areas such as basements or when moisture condenses on cold surfaces like window panes. Somewhere around 45% to 50% is a sensible target for most rooms.

Does it need a special outlet?

No. It is 115V, 60Hz, drawing 1.35A in normal running and 1.75A at maximum, on a 6.1 ft cord. That is a light load on an ordinary grounded Canadian household outlet.
