Three modes, and the sleep setting is unusual

Why does the same machine say 60 pints and 15 pints?

Different test conditions. 60 pints a day is measured at 95F and 90% relative humidity, 45 pints at 86F and 80%, and 15 pints on the DOE standard at 65F and 60%. What does sleep mode actually hold the room at?

The manufacturer says sleeping mode creates lower noise and maintains a proper humidity level at 60%. That is higher than you would normally set during the day, which is why it is quieter: the compressor has less work to do. If you want a lower level overnight, use auto mode with the fan on low instead.

How often will a 1.7 gallon tank need emptying?

That depends on the room rather than the machine. In a wet basement in July a 60 pint unit can fill it within a day. In a mildly damp main floor it will last longer. The machine shuts off and buzzes when it is full, so nothing overflows. If the trips become tedious, fit the 3.3 ft hose and drain to something lower.

Does it need a special outlet?

No. It is specified at 115V, 60Hz drawing 2.7A, on a 5.3 ft cord, which is comfortably within an ordinary grounded Canadian household outlet. Plug it into the wall rather than a light duty extension cord.
