Why do the branches droop?

By design. The manufacturer describes each branch as bowing as though weighed down by fresh snow, which is what a real snow covered conifer does. It is not a fault or a sign the branches are weak.

How is this one different from the 6 ft and 7 ft versions?

Tip and light counts step up with the height. The series gives 279, 519 and 743 tips and 150, 250 and 320 lights for the 4.5, 6 and 7 ft sizes. This listing is the 4.5 ft.

What does connecting the wires mean in the assembly steps?

On a two section pre-lit tree each section has its own light run, joined by a plug where the sections meet. If that plug is not pushed home, the top of the tree stays dark. Do it before you start fluffing.

How do I keep the flocking looking right?

Unpack over a sheet, expect a small amount of shed, and keep water and cleaning sprays off it. Store cool, dry and out of direct light.
