Description

6 FT Fibre Optic Artificial Christmas Tree with 7 Colour Lights and Two Flash Speeds

Seven colours run through this one: red, blue, green, purple, yellow, white and warm white, in a quick flash or a slow flash sequence. The light is carried by fibre optic strands built into every branch, with 24 LEDs on the pole itself. It stands 6 ft tall and 2.7 ft wide, and it comes in two pieces, the tree and its stand.

The tree that is already finished

Lights and ornaments are most of the work

On an ordinary six foot tree the branches are only the start. Then comes testing a light string, winding it on evenly, and hanging enough ornaments to cover the gaps. It is an evening's work every year.

Fibre optics instead of a light string

Every branch on this one has fibre optic strands already in it, fed from the base, plus 24 LEDs on the pole. It comes apart into two pieces, the tree and the stand. Stand it up, plug it in, and the display is running.

A fibre optic tree is a different thing from a pre-lit tree, and the difference is worth understanding before you buy. The light does not come from bulbs hanging on the branches. It comes from a source in the base and travels out along clear strands, so the ends of the branches are what glow.

Manufacturer graphic captioned brilliant optical fibers add to the festive atmosphere with a UL588 certified plug, showing the tree lit in multiple colours and an inset close up of glowing fibre ends

What the fibre tips actually look like

The inset is the honest close up: fine strands with lit ends, scattered through the needles like sparks rather than lined up like a string of bulbs. That is the effect people buy a fibre optic tree for. The manufacturer labels the plug as UL588 certified, and Health Canada advises checking for a CSA, cUL or cETL mark on the unit you receive.

Six feet tall, under three feet wide

The drawing gives 6 ft of height against a 2.7 ft spread. That is narrow for six feet, which suits a flat, a rented room or a corner position. A standard 8 ft ceiling leaves plenty of clearance above it.

Side by side image of the same tree unlit in daylight and lit at night with multicoloured fibre tips throughout

Daylight and after dark

Side by side you can see what it is doing in both states. By day it is an ordinary green PVC tree with a dense, neat cone. After dark the fibres take over, and the colour moves through the whole tree rather than sitting on one side of it.

The needles between the fibres

Close up you can see the strands sitting among ordinary PVC needles. The needle density is what stops a fibre optic tree looking bare during the day, when the light is off and the strands are just clear filament.

What you get

Seven light colours

Red, blue, green, purple, yellow, white and warm white, cycling through the tree.

Two flash sequences

Alternates between a quick flash and a slow flash, so it can be lively or calm.

Fibre optics on every branch

Pre-installed, so there is no light string to test, wind on or untangle.

24 LEDs on the pole

Lights built into the trunk as well as the fibre ends, for depth inside the tree.

Two piece assembly

It separates into the tree and the base only, which is as simple as a six foot tree gets.

2.7 ft spread

Narrow enough for a corner or a small living room at six feet of height.

Dense PVC needles

Fade and crush resistant PVC per the manufacturer, so it still looks right unlit.

High density plastic stand

A moulded stand that assembles separately and holds the tree steady.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn off the colour change and keep one colour?

No. The record describes seven colours alternating between a quick flash and a slow flash sequence. There is no fixed colour mode described, so do not buy it expecting one.

Can I hang ornaments on it?

A few light ones. Every ornament covers fibre tips, which are the light source, so the more you hang the less the tree glows. Most people leave a fibre optic tree bare or add a handful of small pieces near the trunk.

How much assembly is there?

Very little. The tree is one piece and the base is the other, and only the stand needs putting together. The fibres and the pole LEDs are already installed, so there is no wiring to join.

Can it go outside on a porch?

No. The record describes it as being for indoor display and no outdoor rating is published. Health Canada is clear that decorations rated for indoor use are used inside only.
