10 FT Scalloped Patio Umbrella with Push Button Tilt and 8 Fiberglass Ribs-Beige

Fibreglass ribs are the reason this one costs what it does. Eight of them carry a scalloped canopy spanning 10 feet across the rim and 9.4 feet across the canopy, on a two section pole that snaps together without tools. Add a push button tilt of up to 30 degrees, a crank lift, an air vent and a three level safety latch.

The rib that never straightens out again

One gust and a metal rib is bent for good

Most patio umbrellas run on thin metal ribs. A strong gust catches the canopy, a rib folds, and it stays folded. From then on the canopy sits crooked and the fabric wears where the kink is.

Ribs that flex and come back

This frame uses eight fibreglass ribs instead. Fibreglass bends under load and springs back to shape, which is why it is used for fishing rods and tent poles. The vent at the top takes some of the pressure off in the first place, and the crank still lets you close it when the weather really turns.

Ten feet across the scallops

Open, the canopy measures 10 feet across the scalloped rim and 9.4 feet across the canopy itself, because the hem hangs past the rib ends. The top down view shows the eight panel layout. Folded, on the right, it comes down to a narrow column on a two section pole.

Over a round table for four to six

On a paved terrace the canopy covers the table and every chair with fabric to spare past the edge, which is what keeps the seats shaded when the sun moves off centre. Furniture guides pair this width with a table of roughly 60 inches. Clearance is 6.5 feet at the rim and 8.2 feet at the crown.

The ribs, highlighted

The manufacturer has picked out the fibreglass ribs in yellow so you can follow them from the hub to the rim. The callout below names the other useful part: a three level safety latch that sets the canopy height and stops it sliding back down the pole.

Crank in one hand, tilt in the other

The two controls are both on the pole. The crank winds the canopy up from waist height, and the button tips the head up to 30 degrees to meet a low sun. The ghosted canopies in the picture show the range of the tilt at a glance.

What you get

Eight fibreglass ribs

Fibreglass bends under a gust and comes back. That is the whole argument against a metal rib that stays bent.

Three level safety latch

The latch sets the canopy at one of three heights and holds it there, so it cannot slide back down the pole.

Push button tilt

One button leans the head up to 30 degrees, which is what you want once the sun drops toward the fence.

Crank lift

The crank opens and closes the canopy from waist height, with no reaching overhead to push a runner up.

Two section snap in pole

The pole joins on a push button connector, which means no tools to build it and half the length to store it.

PA coated polyester

The manufacturer describes the coated fabric as sun protective, water resistant and wear resistant.

Air vent at the top

The vent lets air climb out through the canopy instead of pressing against the whole of it from below.

Scalloped hem

The rim is cut in scallops rather than straight, which is where the 10 ft and 9.4 ft spans differ.

Who is this perfect for?

Windy, open gardens

Fibreglass ribs are the reason to choose this one. They flex in a gust instead of taking a permanent kink.

Tables with a centre hole

The 1.5 inch pole drops through a standard patio table opening, with the stand underneath taking the load.

Small sheds and garages

The pole splits into two sections at a push button, so winter storage does not need a 9 foot clear run.

Frequently asked questions

Why fibreglass ribs instead of metal?

Because fibreglass flexes under load and returns to shape, while a metal rib that bends past its limit tends to stay bent. No flex test figures are published for this umbrella, so we are describing how the two materials behave generally rather than making a tested claim about this frame.

How much does it shade, and how much headroom is there?

Ten feet across the scalloped rim and 9.4 feet across the canopy, which suits a round table of roughly 60 inches and about six chairs with a margin hanging past the edge. Underneath, the rim sits 6.5 feet off the ground and the crown 8.2 feet, so there is standing room near the pole and head height at the very edge.

What stand does it need?

A weighted stand is required and not included. The minimum on this product's own dimension drawing is over 55 lb, stated as the figure for resisting wind. That suits an umbrella whose pole also drops through a patio table. Standing free on an open deck, published guidance for a 10 foot centre-pole umbrella runs closer to 100 lb, so size up in that case.

How does it store over winter?

Crank it closed, split the pole at the snap in button and let the canopy dry completely before it goes away. The two piece pole is the useful part here, because half the length fits in places the full pole will not. Canadian care guides warn about the same two things every year: snow load on an open canopy, and damp fabric folded away for months.
