How much area does the canopy shade, and how high does it sit?

What base does it need?

A cross base is included and a weighted base is not. The description recommends 90 lb (40 kg), sold separately. Because a cantilever hangs its whole canopy to one side of the post, that ballast is doing more work than it would on a centre-pole umbrella of the same width, so do not go under the recommendation.

Why is the pole so much thicker than a normal umbrella?

Because on a cantilever the post works as a lever rather than a simple prop. The whole canopy hangs off one side of it, so the pole is resisting a bending load all day. The description states 3.3 inches, or 8.5 centimetres, against the 1.5 inches typical of a market umbrella pole.

How does it store over winter?
