A weighted patio base is deliberately heavy, which is exactly what makes it a nuisance. Shifting the shade a quarter turn ends up as a shuffle across the paving with somebody holding the pole.

Where the weight sits

Swing the same canopy over the table and the LED beads light the plates from directly above. The rim is 6.4 feet up and the crown 8.4 feet, so there is room to stand at the middle. Roughly 6 to 8 hours of light after a full day's charge, on the manufacturer's figures.

The pedal, close up

The inset shows exactly what you are stepping on: a small pedal at the foot of the post. It unlocks the rotation while your foot is on it. No tools, no loosening a collar overhead, and no need to empty the base first.

The arm steps through six positions, so you can drop the canopy low against late sun or raise it for headroom.

Step on the pedal at the base, hold the post and turn. The canopy goes right around without the base shifting.

Can one person turn it?

Yes. That is what the pedal is for. Press it with a foot, hold the post with one hand and turn. The base stays loaded and planted throughout, so there is nothing to lift.

What will a 10 foot canopy cover?

A six seat dining table or a corner sofa, with fabric to spare past the edge so the seats stay shaded as the light moves. Height matters too: 6.4 feet to the rim and 8.4 feet to the crown, which is enough to stand under the middle and about head height at the outer edge.

Is the weighted base in the box?

How should it be stored over winter?
