Foot on the pedal, hand on the post

Two steps, shown here as two insets. Press the pedal at the base with your foot, then hold the post and turn. The canopy tracks around to wherever the sun has moved and the base stays planted. It is a one person job, which a loaded umbrella base would not be.

Why the top has two layers

Seen from above, the crown is a small second canopy sitting over a gap in the main one. Air that pushes up inside escapes through that gap rather than lifting the whole cover. The inset shows water beading on the polyester, which the manufacturer describes as water repellent.

The arm steps through six positions, so you can drop the canopy low against late sun or raise it for headroom.

Step on the pedal at the base, hold the post and turn. The canopy goes right around without the base shifting.

The top is built in two layers with a gap between them, so air climbs out of the canopy rather than pushing it.

How much will a 10 foot canopy cover, and how high does it sit?

Ten feet across is the size furniture guides pair with a round table of roughly 60 inches and about six seats, or a full corner sofa. The clearance matters as much: the rim sits 6.4 feet off the ground and the crown 8.4 feet, so you walk under the middle easily and meet the edge at head height. Set the post on the side people are not walking past.

Is a weighted base included?

No. The 40 inch cross frame is in the box, and this product's dimension drawing recommends adding a 90 lb weighted base, sold separately. Because a cantilever carries its canopy off to one side, the base is doing more work than it would on a centre-pole umbrella of the same width, so do not go under the recommendation.

How long do the lights last on a charge?

The manufacturer rates the solar lighting at about 6 to 8 hours after a full day of charging. They also suggest leaving the lights switched off while the panel is charging if you want the longest evening out of it.

How should it be stored over winter?
