Will it roll away on its own?

Not with the brakes on. Each of the four wheels locks, which is what holds the tree in place once it is where you want it.

Does it work on carpet?

The manufacturer describes the wheels as smooth and low noise without naming a floor type. Castors of this size move more easily on hard floors than on deep pile.

Will the flocking shed?

Some comes away at the first setup. Open it out over a sheet and hold the inner branches rather than the tips. Keep water and cleaning sprays off flocked foliage.
