Eleven modes, named

The panel lists them: A steady on, A quick flash, A slow flash, B steady on, B quick flash, B slow flash, A and B colour changing quick flash, A and B colour changing slow flash, A and B colour changing five times, A and B colour changing slow fade, and A and B steady on. A and B are the two light colours. The controller sits inline on the cord and the manufacturer marks the adaptor UL.

What the needles are made of

1346 tips of white PVC, which the manufacturer describes as 100% new material, fireproof, anti-fading, anti-deformation, smell free and non-allergic. White trees show dust more than green ones, so a soft duster once during the season keeps the colour clean rather than grey.

How tall is it exactly?

There is a difference in the record and we would rather you heard it from us. The store title says 7 ft. The manufacturer's own dimension drawing for this model reads 7.5 ft tall by 4 ft wide with a 22 inch stand, and the description text refers to the family as 6 or 7.5 ft. Measure your space against 7.5 ft to be safe, and check the ceiling before you order.

What do the 11 lighting modes actually do?

A and B are the two light colours, warm white and multicolour. Each can run steady, quick flash or slow flash. The remaining settings cross between them: colour changing quick flash, slow flash, five times, slow fade, and both steady together. The controller sits on the cord where you can reach it.

Is the tree white or is it just the lighting?

The needles are white PVC. The blue and violet you see in the night photographs are the multicolour setting washing over white foliage, which is why the colour looks so strong. With the lights off it is a plain white tree.

What happens if one of the LEDs fails?

Lighting trade guidance is that on an LED set a bulb which fails but stays intact leaves the rest of the run lit, while a lens cracked right through can take out a whole section. These lights are fitted into the branches at the factory, so they are part of the tree rather than a string you unclip and replace.
