Reaching behind the tree for the switch
The plug is always at the back, on the floor
Every evening the same job: move the gifts, get down behind the branches, find the inline switch by feel and turn it on. On a tree with an exposed trunk there is nowhere to hide a controller anyway.
A pedal you press with your foot
The manufacturer puts a foot pedal on the cord of this one. Step on it and the 100 warm white LEDs come on, step again and they go off. Nothing to bend down for and nothing to move out of the way.
Red tips, white edges, a bare trunk
The circles show the two design decisions. The foliage is red with white at the tips, layered in tiers rather than blended, and the trunk is left exposed with a printed wood grain. Together they give a stylised look closer to a shop display than a traditional fir.
Five feet, two feet across
5 ft tall, 24 inches wide, on a 9.5 by 9.5 inch base plate. The narrow base is the trade off for an exposed trunk, so keep it out of a doorway or anywhere it will be knocked. A pair of gloves comes with it.
Warm white against red
The close up shows warm white bulbs sitting among red needles, which is a deliberately narrow palette: no colour changing and no multicolour string to fight the foliage. The adapter is stated UL certified and there is a light controller on the cord.

Frequently asked questions
Is the trunk really visible?
Yes, and deliberately. The foliage is arranged in tiers with gaps between them and the trunk is printed with a wood grain texture. If you want a tree with branches to the floor, this is not that tree.
How does the foot pedal work?
It sits on the cord and switches the lights on and off when you press it, so the tree can be lit without reaching behind the branches. A light controller is also supplied.
Does it need anchoring?
Not normally indoors. The manufacturer says the metal base can be secured with ground stakes or weights for extra stability, and neither is included. Keep it out of a doorway and it will stand.
What ornaments suit a red tree?
White, gold and clear glass hold their own against red foliage. Red ornaments disappear into it, and multicoloured sets tend to fight with it.
