Lighting three corners of a house usually means three trees, three stands and three light strings to buy, test and wind on, each taking a couple of feet of floor.

These arrive lit, weighted and ready. Each tree is planted in its own cement filled bucket with its own control box and timer, and the buckets are under seven inches across, so one set can light a hall, a landing and a dining room without any of them being in the way.

Three, four and five feet

The buckets are 7 inches across and 7.5 high for the smallest tree, 6.5 across and 9.5 high for the other two, each sitting on a 10 inch footprint. Staggering the heights is what makes three trees read as an arrangement rather than a repetition.

50, 80 and 100 warm white bulbs

Two hundred and thirty bulbs across the set, scaled to each tree so the small one is not swamped and the tall one is not thin. Warm white throughout, and the manufacturer's day and night pairing is the honest way to judge how much light that actually is.

Together or apart

Each tree comes with its own control box, which is what makes splitting the set across rooms practical rather than theoretical. Grouped, the three heights give a layered look; apart, one set covers a hall, a landing and a dining room.

Buckets filled with cement

Each bucket has cement set into it, which is how a slim tree stays upright without a wide stand. The PVC is described by the maker as flame-retardant, odourless and long-lasting, and nothing has to be hidden because the bucket is the finished base.

Slim lit trees in weighted buckets suit circulation spaces, where a full tree would be an obstacle and a stand would be a trip hazard. The timer means none of them needs switching on by hand.

Because each tree is independently powered and timed, this is really three small trees sold together rather than one display. Splitting them up is a legitimate way to use the set, not a compromise.

Does it have lighting modes?

We cannot confirm it. A section heading in the manufacturer's description says 8 lighting modes, but the text under that heading describes only the timer, and no mode list appears on any of its panels. We have not claimed modes on this page. Ask us and we will check with the supplier before you order.

How does the timer work?

Six hours on and eighteen hours off, repeating daily from when you set it, on each tree independently. That is the one lighting feature the record states consistently.

Do the trees plug into each other?

No. Each has its own control box and its own supply, which is why they can stand in three different rooms. Grouped together they will want a power bar.

How stable is a slim tree in a bucket?

The buckets are cement filled, so the weight sits at the bottom rather than out to the sides. Steady for their size, but these are narrow trees and a hard knock will still move them.

Can they stand outside?

No weather or ingress rating is published, so we would keep them under cover. The buckets would not mind a sheltered porch; the electrics are not described as weatherproof.

Can I replace a bulb?

The strings are factory-wired into the branches and no spare bulb or fuse specification is published, so we cannot promise individual bulb replacement. LED strings of this type are normally wired so one failed bulb does not darken the rest.
