How many lights should I buy for it?

That is your call, and it depends on the look you want. Whatever you choose, Health Canada advises picking a string with a CSA, cUL or cETL mark, keeping indoor rated strings indoors, and switching them off before bed.

Will the flocking shed?

The manufacturer says so itself: a little flocking may shed during first setup, and gentle handling works best. Open it out over a sheet and keep water and sprays off the branches.

What does hinged mean here?

Each branch stays bolted to the pole on a hinge, so it swings down into position as you stand the section up. The alternative, hook-on branches, are placed into the pole one at a time and take far longer.

Is 1.85 feet wide enough to look like a tree?

It reads as a tall, narrow tree rather than a classic cone, which is the trade a pencil shape makes. In a corner or an alcove that is exactly what you want.
