Auto defrost, overload protection, tank full cut-off, a self-evaporating system, manual or continuous drainage, and auto restart after a power cut. That last one matters if you run it while you are out: after a summer storm it picks up where it left off rather than sitting dark.

Fitting it, and using the heat

The kit covers openings from 25.5 to 47 inches on hung or sliding windows. The heating function shares the same 60.8 to 89.6 F set range as cooling, so switching between them in the shoulder season is one button rather than a new setup.

Will the heating replace my furnace?

No. It is rated at 10,000 BTU of heating for a single room, which is enough to take the chill off a converted attic or a garage office in spring and autumn. It is not a whole house heating system and it is not designed for the depth of a Canadian winter.

Does it plug into a normal outlet?

Yes. Both the store record and the manufacturer's own specification give the power supply as 115V at 60Hz, which is a standard Canadian household socket. Give it a dedicated outlet rather than sharing a circuit with other heavy appliances.

Which cooling figure should I size my room from?

The SACC rating of 8,800 BTU. ASHRAE 14,000 BTU is measured under fixed laboratory conditions, and Danby notes SACC comes out lower for the same machine because it reflects real cooling season temperature and humidity. The 700 sq ft figure is the maker's recommendation against the SACC number.

Will it need draining?

Usually not in cooling mode. The self-evaporating system carries most condensate out as vapour through the exhaust hose, and the unit stops itself if the tank does fill. A 25.5 inch drainage hose is supplied for continuous drainage in humid weather.
