8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, 3 in 1 Floor AC Unit with Fan and Dehumidifier, 250 sq ft
Description
8000 BTU 3 in 1 Floor Air Conditioner with Fan and Dehumidifier
Cooling, drying and fan from a 27 inch floor cabinet rated 8,000 BTU ASHRAE and 5,000 BTU SACC, matched to about 250 sq ft. Noise is quoted at 50 dB, and a drain hole underneath takes the supplied hose so the water leaves on its own.
A floor standing unit lives in the room all summer, so the things that wear on you are noise at night and whatever job it makes you do every few days.

Both capacity figures on one label
8,000 BTU under the ASHRAE test and 5,000 BTU under the newer SACC method, with 250 sq ft of coverage tied to the smaller number. Air flow is 155 CFM. Sizing off SACC is what stops a unit feeling weaker than the box promised.
Getting the water out without lifting anything
The drain hole sits underneath and takes the supplied 3.3 ft hose. Run it to a floor drain or a shallow tray and the unit drains itself. Two built-in handles and four turning castors move the 44 lb cabinet between rooms.

What 50 dB sounds like in a bedroom
The manufacturer quotes 50 dB, which sits below normal conversation and closer to a quiet office. Sleep mode drops the fan and drifts the set point up, and the 24 hour timer stops the unit at whatever hour you choose.
What you get
Three functions in one cabinet
Cool, dehumidify and fan, with high and low fan speed and a 61 to 88 F cooling range.
45.5 pints a day in dry mode
The rated daily figure. Useful in a finished basement where damp is more of a problem than heat.
Bottom drainage hole
Takes a 3.3 ft hose for continuous drainage. No tray to empty if you use it.
Auto shut off when full
The unit stops before water can reach the floor if you run it without the hose.
Removable washable filter
Pulls out for a rinse under the tap and goes straight back in.
115V on a 6 ft cord
115V, 60Hz at 7.7 A, into a normal Canadian household socket.

Who is this perfect for?
Finished basements
Continuous drainage through the bottom hole and a 45.5 pint a day dry mode, near a floor drain.
Bedrooms where noise is the deal breaker
50 dB quoted, with a sleep mode and a timer that shuts it off in the night.
Single rooms up to 250 sq ft
The figure is tied to the 5,000 BTU SACC rating, not the larger lab number.

Frequently asked questions
What is the real difference between the two BTU figures?
ASHRAE 8,000 comes from a fixed laboratory test. SACC 5,000 is the seasonally adjusted rating that reflects real temperature and humidity through a cooling season, and Danby notes it is generally lower for the same machine. The 250 sq ft coverage is matched to the SACC number.
Do I have to empty it?
Only if you skip the hose. There is a drainage hole in the base and a 3.3 ft hose in the carton. Fit it and the condensate runs away continuously. In dry indoor air you may see very little either way.
What windows does the kit fit?
Sliding windows from 24.5 to 47 inches. Casement windows that crank outward need a panel cut to the opening, since a generic sliding kit cannot seal that frame.
Will it work in a room with no window?
No, not properly. The exhaust hose has to reach an opening to the outside, because it carries away the heat the unit has pulled from the room plus the heat the compressor makes. Venting indoors makes the room warmer.
