A Montessori weaning table is sized so a toddler's feet reach the floor and elbows rest at table height, without a booster seat or high chair, so they can climb in and out on their own. The Papaya Set pairs a wooden table with drop-proof borders and a matching chair, each with two adjustable height settings, in natural maple or birch plywood.

Sapiens Child was started in Vancouver by a mechanical engineer with carpentry skills and his wife, an AMI-certified Montessori guide, who wanted furniture their own toddler could use on their own instead of a high chair. Every Papaya Set ships flat from their Vancouver workshop and takes about 12 to 15 minutes to put together with the included instructions.

Rounded edges, borders that catch what falls

Every corner and edge is rounded, and raised borders along the tabletop keep food and toys from sliding straight to the floor. The white melamine top and seat wipe clean; the maple plywood frame is hand-varnished with tinted edges.

A chair that grows with your toddler

The chair measures 13.5" wide by 12.4" deep, 15" tall overall, and adjusts between a 7" and 8" seat height so it keeps fitting your child at the table.

The table adjusts to match

The table measures 22.2" wide by 18.3" deep, 15.2" tall overall, and adjusts between a 12" and 13" tabletop height to stay matched to the chair.

Two wood options, same build

Birch shows a bit more visible grain and layering than maple, and its edges are hand-sealed rather than varnished. Same rounded borders and adjustable heights either way; pick the finish you like.

The plywood meets the California Air Resources Board's CARB2 standard and TSCA Title VI, both formaldehyde-emission limits for composite wood.
