Buying a smaller compressor in the same cabinet is a sensible trade in a room that does not need the bigger one. The fan, the filters and the controls are unchanged.

194 CFM of air flow is identical to the 10,000 BTU version of this cabinet. What changes is the capacity, 8,200 BTU rather than 10,000, and the coverage, 350 sq ft rather than 450. For a bedroom or a study that is the right side of the trade.

Does it plug into a normal socket?
Yes. The manufacturer specifies 115V at 60Hz with a total input current of 10 A, which is a standard Canadian household outlet. The cord is 4.7 ft, so it needs to stand close to the socket.
How often will I need to drain it?
