Does it need a special outlet?

No. The manufacturer specifies 115V at 60Hz with a total input current of 10.4 A, which is a standard Canadian household socket on a normal circuit. The cord is only 4.7 ft, which is short, so choose a spot within easy reach of an outlet.

What does auto mode actually do?

It reads the room temperature and switches between cooling and fan without you choosing, and the fan speed can be set to follow. It saves adjusting the machine as the day warms up and cools off again.

Which BTU figure should I match to my room?

The SACC figure, 6,000 BTU. It is the seasonally adjusted rating that reflects a real cooling season, and Danby notes it is generally lower than the ASHRAE laboratory number for the same machine.

Will the window kit fit my window?

It covers openings from 26.5 to 47 inches. Crank out casement windows need a panel cut to the exact size, because a sliding kit cannot seal against that frame properly.
