How loud it actually is at night

The manufacturer rates it at 54 dB or under, which sits between a quiet library and normal conversation. Sleep mode drifts the set point up slowly so the compressor runs less, and the 1 to 24 hour timer can shut it off an hour after you fall asleep.

Cool, dry and fan. Dry mode runs the compressor without chasing a temperature, which is what you want on a muggy 20 degree day.

That is the rated dry mode capacity. Attach the 2.1 ft drain hose to the bottom port for continuous draining instead of emptying anything by hand.

Why does the box say 8,000 BTU and the fine print say 5,000?

They are two different test methods for the same machine. ASHRAE is measured under fixed laboratory conditions. SACC, the newer figure used by the US Department of Energy, adjusts for the temperature and humidity swings of a real cooling season, so it comes out lower. Danby notes SACC is generally the lower number for any given unit. Size your room off the SACC figure and you will not be disappointed.

Will the window kit fit my crank out window?

No. The slider kit supplied here is built for sliding windows between 25.5 and 47 inches, either vertical or horizontal. Casement and crank out windows, which are common in newer Canadian houses, need a panel cut to the exact opening, and makers of those inserts are clear that a generic sliding kit leaks when it is forced into a casement frame.

How often will I have to empty it?

That depends on how humid the air is. In a dry room you may never touch it. In sticky weather a 10,000 BTU class unit can pull two and a half to three and a half pints an hour, which is why the 2.1 ft drain hose is included: run it to a floor drain or a shallow tray and it empties itself.

Can I run it in a room with no window?

Not sensibly. The hose has to send the hot exhaust air outside. Vent it into the same room and you add heat rather than remove it. A patio door track or a wall vent can work if the opening falls inside the 25.5 to 47 inch range.
