8000 BTU 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner with Fan and Dehumidifier Mode, 250 sq ft
Description
8000 BTU 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner with Fan and Dehumidifier Mode
790 W at the wall is modest for a machine that cools, dries at 45 pints a day and runs as a fan. Rated 8,000 BTU ASHRAE and 5,200 BTU SACC for a room of about 250 sq ft, with a mode light that changes colour as the setting changes.
Running cost is the part nobody sees on the shelf. A smaller compressor on the same cabinet pulls 7.5 amps rather than 9.2, and that shows up on the bill over a long summer.

Sized for one room, not a floor
250 sq ft of rated coverage is a bedroom, a study or a small den. Portable units cool the room they are in, not the one next door, so plan to shut the door. The hose still has to reach the window from wherever it stands.
The handles you only notice when they are missing
The grips are moulded into the sides rather than bolted on, so nothing sticks out to catch a doorframe. At 47 lb the unit rolls easily on carpet and needs a proper hold only when it goes over a threshold.

Wheels that turn on a metal bracket
Each castor swivels on a steel plate screwed into the base rather than a plastic socket. That is what lets a unit this weight be nudged into position with a foot and stay where it is put.
What you get
8,000 BTU ASHRAE, 5,200 BTU SACC
Rated to 250 sq ft against the seasonally adjusted figure rather than the lab number.
790 W, 7.5 A
Modest draw for a compressor unit, on an ordinary 115V household circuit.
Three colour mode light
Blue cooling, purple fan, green dehumidifying, visible from the other side of the room.
45 pints a day dry mode
Enough to take the edge off a damp basement or a lakeside cottage in July.
Two drain holes
One for occasional emptying, one for a hose left connected for continuous drainage.
Rinseable filter
Removable and washable, with no cartridge to buy.

Who is this perfect for?
Bedrooms and studies to 250 sq ft
The coverage figure is tied to the 5,200 BTU SACC rating, not the larger ASHRAE number.
Households watching the electricity bill
790 W and 7.5 A, against 891 W and 9.2 A for the larger version of the same cabinet.
Renters and students
Nothing is screwed to the building, and the kit lifts out when the lease ends.

Frequently asked questions
How much will it cost to run?
The manufacturer rates it at 790 W, drawing 7.5 A at 115V. Multiply your own hydro rate by the hours you expect it to run for a realistic figure. A portable unit cycles rather than running flat out, so the real number is usually below the rated one.
Why is the SACC rating so much lower than 8,000 BTU?
They are different tests. ASHRAE uses fixed laboratory conditions, SACC is the seasonally adjusted method that reflects real temperature and humidity, and Danby notes SACC comes out lower for the same machine. The 250 sq ft coverage is based on the SACC figure.
Will it fit a crank out casement window?
No. The kit adjusts from 25.5 to 47 inches and is made for sliding windows. Casement windows need a panel cut for the exact opening, because a generic sliding kit cannot seal against that frame.
Does it need emptying often?
Only in humid weather, and only if you leave the continuous drain hole plugged. Fit a hose to it and the condensate leaves under gravity while the unit runs.
