Do I still have to shape it?

Some, yes. The branches open towards the right shape on their own, but the tips still want spreading out from the central wire so the tree looks full rather than flat.

How many lights should I buy?

That depends on the look you want, since this tree is unlit. Whatever you choose, Health Canada advises a string with a CSA, cUL or cETL mark and switching it off before bed.
