Description

32 Pint Portable Dehumidifier for 2000 Sq Ft, 9 Pints DOE, CSA Certified, 36 dB, 0.55 Gallon Tank

Carries a CSA mark alongside the DOE energy listing, which is the pair worth checking on any appliance sold in Canada. Water removal is 32 pints a day at 95F and 90% RH, 24 at 86F and 80%, and 9 pints on the 2019 DOE test. It runs at 36 dB and weighs 22 lbs.

The cabinet is 18 inches tall on a 10 by 8.5 inch base and weighs 22 lbs. The manufacturer rates it to 2,000 sq ft.

The marks on the side of this photo matter

CSA is the Canadian electrical safety certification, and it is the one an inspector or an insurer recognises. The DOE mark is the energy listing, and it is the reason a 65F rated capacity figure exists for this model at all. Auto defrost and memory restart are the two functions that let it run in a cool basement without anyone attending to it.

Half a gallon, or a hose and no thinking

The 0.55 gallon tank slides out of the base and has a level you can see without pulling it. It alarms and the machine stops when it fills. In a bathroom or a basement it will fill faster than you want to carry it, so use the 3.3 ft hose in the box and run it to a floor drain lower than the machine.

Three modes and the room each one suits

Continuously drying runs without waiting for a target, which is what a rail of wet clothes needs. Auto holds a level between 30% and 80% and idles in between, which is how a living room should be run. Sleep drops the fan, dims the indicators and switches the screen off for a bedroom.

What you get

CSA as well as DOE

The manufacturer's own artwork for this model shows both marks. CSA is the Canadian safety certification and DOE is the energy listing.

A published DOE figure

9 pints a day at 65F and 60% RH. Most listings in this bracket only quote the flattering 95F number.

Three colour indicator light

Blue when the room is at or under 45%, green in the comfortable band, red above 65%. Readable from across the room.

Auto defrost

Clears frost off the coil in a cool room instead of letting it build up and choke the airflow.

Memory restart

Comes back on your own settings after a power interruption rather than sitting dark until someone notices.

Child lock on a long press

Hold the lock key to freeze the panel, so a passing hand cannot change the target or switch it off.

Recessed handle and four wheels

The handle is set into the cabinet so nothing catches on a doorframe, and four universal wheels take the 22 lbs across a floor.

Frequently asked questions

Why 32 pints in the title and 9 pints in the specification?

Both are this machine, at different test conditions. 32 pints a day is measured at 95F and 90% relative humidity, 24 pints at 86F and 80%, and 9 pints on the 2019 DOE test at 65F and 60%. The US Department of Energy moved to that cooler condition because it reflects a basement rather than tropical air, and ENERGY STAR publishes a guide showing the same drop across the industry. Compare DOE to DOE.

What humidity should I set?

Health Canada advises keeping a home between 30% and 50% relative humidity, and running a dehumidifier in damp areas such as basements or when moisture condenses on cold surfaces like window panes. Around 45% to 50% is a sensible starting point, and the indicator light turns green in that band.

Will it help with a musty smelling room?

It controls the moisture that a musty smell normally comes with. Health Canada notes that mould can begin growing in an area with excess moisture within 48 hours, and recommends running a dehumidifier as part of keeping a home between 30% and 50%. It is not a treatment for existing growth, and any water getting in through a wall or floor still needs fixing.

Does it plug into a normal outlet?

Yes. The specification is 115V, 60Hz on a 5.4 ft cord, so an ordinary grounded Canadian household outlet is correct. Plug it into the wall rather than a light duty extension cord.
