How the gradient actually runs

Against a plain background you can see where the colour changes. The top third is white and thickly flocked. Below that the blue comes through and deepens, so the darkest colour is at the bottom where the branches are longest. It is one continuous fade rather than three banded sections.

Warm metals are what the manufacturer's own photography reaches for, and they are right. Gold, copper and red read strongly against pale blue, where silver and white tend to vanish into the flocking. Clear or warm white lights of your own will also warm the blue down, since none are fitted.

Does the flocking come off?

Some will. Every flocked tree sheds a little, most of it in the first setup and while it is being decorated. Care guides suggest shaking the tree gently outside or over a sheet when you unpack it, keeping a vacuum handy for the first day, and not brushing the branches with anything wet. Water and cleaning sprays mark flocking.

How much floor space does it take?

It spreads 4.8 ft across at the widest, with a 22 inch stand underneath. Measure a circle of five feet. That is wide for eight feet of height, so it wants a wall it can stand out from rather than a tight corner.

Does it come with lights?

No. This tree is unlit, and the lights in the photography are the room's own. If you want it lit, a string of warm white will settle the blue down and a cool white will push it colder. Health Canada advises looking for a CSA, cUL or cETL mark on whatever string you buy.

How should a flocked tree be stored?

Somewhere cool and dry, wrapped loosely rather than crushed. Flocking is damaged by damp and by pressure, so a tree bag or a loose plastic wrap around each section works better than forcing it back into a tight box. Keep it out of direct sun in storage, which is what yellows white flocking.
