Reading the panel in one glance

The big figure is the humidity the machine is reading in the room right now, not the target. SETTING changes the target between 30% and 80%. MODE swaps auto for continuous. TIMER sets a start or stop within 24 hours, and holding it for three seconds turns the pump on, which is when the PUMP label lights. Holding MODE for three seconds locks the panel against curious hands.

The 16.5 ft lift covers the rise from a basement floor to a laundry sink or a window well, which is the situation a gravity hose cannot solve.

How high can the pump actually push the water?

Up to 16.5 ft above the machine, along a hose that is also 16.5 ft long. Measure both before you choose a spot: the rise from the floor to your sink or window, and the distance across the room. If there happens to be a floor drain lower than the unit, the same hose will drain by gravity with the pump switched off.

Why are there two very different pint figures?

They are the same machine at two test conditions. 140 pints a day is at 95F and 90% relative humidity. 50 pints is the 2019 DOE test, which the US Department of Energy moved to 65F and 60% because it reflects a basement rather than a tropical day. What humidity should I aim for?

Health Canada advises keeping relative humidity in a home between 30% and 50%, and running a dehumidifier in damp areas such as basements or when moisture condenses on cold surfaces like window panes. This unit sets anywhere from 30% to 80%, so a target around 45% to 50% is a sensible place to start.

Is it safe to leave running while I am away?

It is built for it: overload protection, overflow protection, auto defrost and memory restart after a power cut, plus a 24 hour timer and a child lock. Use the pump drain rather than a tank so there is nothing to overflow, check the filter before you go, and make sure the discharge hose is secured at the far end.
