Where the light comes from

At night the beads pick out the rib lines and drop light onto the table rather than out into the garden. The inset shows the small solar panel that charges them during the day. There is no cord, no plug and no timer, just a switch.

Closing it down

The crank is a plain metal handle on the pole. Fourteen feet of canvas is a lot of sail, so being able to wind both canopies shut in a few turns is what makes the umbrella practical. The closed canopy is shown standing tidily on its base.

Do the lights need wiring in?

No. A solar panel on the umbrella charges the 48 LED beads and a switch on the umbrella turns them on. The manufacturer quotes 6 to 8 hours from a full charge. Nothing about the set is plugged in.

How heavy is the base and does it come filled?

The base measures 2.4 ft by 2.4 ft by 0.5 ft and arrives as supplied by the manufacturer. No filled or unfilled weight is published in the record, so we will not quote one. Site the umbrella before you set the base, because moving it afterwards is a two person job.

Can it stay outside over winter?

The rattan weave and the metal frame are the least fussy parts. Canadian patio guidance puts synthetic wicker in the leave-it-out group, though a cover keeps it looking newer. The umbrella is the piece to deal with: the manufacturer's own note says to close it in severe weather, and snow load on an open canopy bends ribs. Cushions come in dry.

How much deck does this need?

The table alone is 75 in by 36 in, so just over 6 ft by 3 ft. Layout guides ask for about 3 ft of clear floor on every side of a dining table so chairs pull back and people walk behind them. Plan on roughly 12 ft by 9 ft of usable surface, with the canopy overhanging past that.
