Description

10 FT Scalloped Patio Umbrella with Push Button Tilt and 8 Fiberglass Ribs-Brown

A three level safety latch is the unusual part here: it sets where the canopy sits on the pole and locks it, so the height suits the people under it rather than the other way round. Eight fibreglass ribs carry a scalloped brown canopy spanning 10 feet across the rim, with a crank lift, an air vent and a 30 degree push button tilt.

The canopy sitting at the wrong height

Too low for standing, too high to shade you

Market umbrellas usually open to one fixed height. Wound right up, the low sun walks straight in underneath. Wound down, everyone is ducking around the rim to get to their chair.

Three settings, locked

The safety latch on this pole has three levels. Crank the canopy to the height that suits the table and the people at it, drop the latch in and it stays there rather than creeping back down. The 30 degree push button tilt then deals with the direction the sun is coming from.

What ten feet of brown looks like

Open, the canopy spans 10 feet across the scalloped rim and 9.4 feet across the canopy proper. The top down view shows eight panels and the small vent cap at the crown. Shut, on the right, it folds to a narrow column on its two section pole.

Height, seen against a lounger

This is the picture that shows why the latch matters. Over loungers the canopy wants to sit low enough to block slanting light; over a dining table it wants to be up out of the way. The rim measures 6.5 feet at full height and the crown 8.2 feet.

Fibreglass, and the latch

The ribs are picked out in yellow here: eight fibreglass ones, which flex under a gust and spring back rather than taking a permanent bend. The callout beside them is the three level safety pin that fixes the canopy height and stops it sliding down.

What the coating is for

Seen from above, the vent at the crown is the small opening at the centre. The fabric is PA coated polyester, which the manufacturer describes as sun protective, water resistant and wear resistant. It will see off a shower; it is not a roof, so close it in real weather.

What you get

Eight fibreglass ribs

Fibreglass bends under a gust and comes back. That is the whole argument against a metal rib that stays bent.

Three level safety latch

The latch sets the canopy at one of three heights and holds it there, so it cannot slide back down the pole.

Push button tilt

One button leans the head up to 30 degrees, which is what you want once the sun drops toward the fence.

Crank lift

The crank opens and closes the canopy from waist height, with no reaching overhead to push a runner up.

Two section snap in pole

The pole joins on a push button connector, which means no tools to build it and half the length to store it.

PA coated polyester

The manufacturer describes the coated fabric as sun protective, water resistant and wear resistant.

Air vent at the top

The vent lets air climb out through the canopy instead of pressing against the whole of it from below.

Scalloped hem

The rim is cut in scallops rather than straight, which is where the 10 ft and 9.4 ft spans differ.

Who is this perfect for?

Windy, open gardens

Fibreglass ribs are the reason to choose this one. They flex in a gust instead of taking a permanent kink.

Tables with a centre hole

The 1.5 inch pole drops through a standard patio table opening, with the stand underneath taking the load.

Small sheds and garages

The pole splits into two sections at a push button, so winter storage does not need a 9 foot clear run.

Frequently asked questions

What does the three level safety latch do?

It locks the runner, the collar that holds the canopy open, at one of three heights on the pole. That lets you set the canopy low over loungers or high over a dining table, and it stops the canopy sliding back down on its own while people are underneath.

What table does it suit, and what is the clearance?

Ten feet across the scalloped rim, 9.4 feet across the canopy, which matches a round table of roughly 60 inches with about six chairs. At full height the rim sits 6.5 feet above the ground and the crown 8.2 feet, and the latch lets you bring the canopy lower than that if you want to.

What stand does it need?

A weighted stand is required and not included. The minimum on this product's own dimension drawing is over 55 lb, stated as the figure for resisting wind. That suits an umbrella whose pole also drops through a patio table. Standing free on an open deck, published guidance for a 10 foot centre-pole umbrella runs closer to 100 lb, so size up in that case.

How does it store over winter?

Crank it closed, split the pole at the snap in button and let the canopy dry completely before it goes away. The two piece pole is the useful part here, because half the length fits in places the full pole will not. Canadian care guides warn about the same two things every year: snow load on an open canopy, and damp fabric folded away for months.
