Three levels and a door

A branch, not a bracket

The mid platform is carried on a limb that forks off the main trunk rather than on a separate post. That is why it sits at an angle to everything else, and why the tree does not read as a stack of shelves. Each trunk is a different piece of wood, so no two are identical.

A drum instead of a box

The condo is round rather than square, so there are no corners inside it. A cat curls to the wall on every side, which is closer to how cats actually sleep in a confined space than a square box with one flat back.

Jute where the paws go

Jute rope is wound round the posts at the points a cat pushes off, and a pompom hangs from the top bowl. The wrap is placed rather than continuous, so the bare wood stays visible between the bands.
