The gaps between levels are marked at 14 inches, which is a comfortable hop for a healthy adult cat and a stretch for a kitten. The base is 16 inches round and each layer is rated at 22 lb.
Why the shapes work
A crescent has a curved inner edge, and a cat lying along it ends up cupped rather than balanced. The star below gives points to hook a paw over. Both are plush covered, so they read as beds instead of shelves.
