Three heights, three footprints

Five feet, four feet and three feet, spreading 1.7, 1.5 and 1.3 feet, on square steel bases of 10, 8 and 7 inches. Those base measurements matter more than usual here, because a narrow tree on a small plate wants a spot where it will not be knocked. Two pairs of gloves come in the box.

129, 231 and 369 tips

The tip counts rise with the height, and on trees this narrow that is enough to look full without the branches crowding each other. The PVC is described by the maker as fireproof, non-allergic, non-fading and free of any smell, which is the practical worry with a new tree in a closed winter room.

The snow sits along the tops of the drooping branches rather than coating them, so green still shows through. Under the foliage each tree has a bare trunk with visible bark texture, which is what gives the set its alpine look and what most artificial trees hide behind skirts.

A descending row of three reads as a deliberate arrangement rather than as a tree that did not fit. Because each has its own plug, they can be strung along a hallway or split between a window and a counter.

Do the three trees plug into each other?

No. Each has its own UL certificated adaptor and its own plug, which is why they can be lit independently or placed in different rooms. Most people run all three into one power bar.

Is the snow painted on or flocked?

The maker describes snowy leaves rather than a flocked coating, and the photographs show white along the upper edges of the tips with green showing beneath. It is not the heavy all-over flock finish you get on a white flocked fir.

Can the smallest one sit on a table?

Yes. At three feet on a seven inch square base it works on a console, a hall table or a counter as well as on the floor.

How many sections does each tree have?

One, two and three respectively, rising with the height. The smallest arrives in a single piece, which is part of why it packs down so small.

Are the trunks real wood?

No. They are moulded with a bark texture to look like wood, which is what gives the set its alpine character. No wood content is claimed by the manufacturer.

Can I replace a bulb?

The strings are factory-wound into the branches and no spare bulb or fuse specification is published, so we cannot promise individual bulb replacement. LED strings of this type are normally wired so one failed bulb does not darken the rest.
