Is 700 lights a lot for a nine foot tree?

It is a high count. Many pre-lit trees at this height carry between 400 and 500. The practical difference is where the light sits: with 700 bulbs on a 5.2 foot wide tree the glow carries into the middle rather than stopping at the outer branches.

What ceiling height do I need?

Ten feet at a minimum, eleven is comfortable. Sizing guides suggest about a foot between the tip and the ceiling for a topper, and the stand lifts the tree a few inches further. In a standard eight or nine foot room this tree will not stand up.
