What is the real difference between the two BTU figures?

ASHRAE 8,000 comes from a fixed laboratory test. SACC 5,000 is the seasonally adjusted rating that reflects real temperature and humidity through a cooling season, and Danby notes it is generally lower for the same machine. The 250 sq ft coverage is matched to the SACC number.

Do I have to empty it?

Only if you skip the hose. There is a drainage hole in the base and a 3.3 ft hose in the carton. Fit it and the condensate runs away continuously. In dry indoor air you may see very little either way.

What windows does the kit fit?

Sliding windows from 24.5 to 47 inches. Casement windows that crank outward need a panel cut to the opening, since a generic sliding kit cannot seal that frame.

Will it work in a room with no window?

No, not properly. The exhaust hose has to reach an opening to the outside, because it carries away the heat the unit has pulled from the room plus the heat the compressor makes. Venting indoors makes the room warmer.
