Description

15000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heat and App Control

118 pints a day is the highest dehumidifying rate in this whole range, and it comes alongside 15,000 BTU of cooling, 11,500 BTU of heating and 800 sq ft of quoted coverage. The louvre lifts itself open through 74 degrees when the unit starts and closes again when it stops.

A basement that needs drying more than cooling

What usually goes wrong

Below grade rooms in Canadian houses stay damp all summer even when the temperature is fine. A standalone dehumidifier deals with the water but adds heat, and a cooling only air conditioner makes the room cold and still clammy.

How this one answers it

Dry mode here is rated at up to 118 pints a day, higher than any other unit in this range and well into dedicated dehumidifier territory. Continuous drainage means it can run unattended, and the heat mode covers the same room in the shoulder season.

This is the largest machine in the range, and the specification reads that way: four modes, three fan speeds, a heating side and a dehumidifying rate that most standalone dehumidifiers cannot match.

Four jobs, and the figures behind each

15,000 BTU of cooling on the ASHRAE scale and 10,800 BTU on the seasonally adjusted SACC scale. 11,500 BTU of heating. 286 CFM of air flow on three fan speeds. Dry mode up to 118 pints a day. Cooling and heating share a 61 to 88 F set range.

A lid that opens itself

The top louvre lifts through 74 degrees when the unit starts and closes when it stops, so nothing is left gaping when the machine is off. The remote reaches 26 ft, which is well beyond the far side of most rooms this size is meant for.

Six controls, three ways to reach them

Three fan speeds, four modes, the swing, a 1 to 24 hour timer, sleep mode and wireless control. The touch panel, the remote and the phone app all reach the same set, so nothing is stranded behind one of them.

Quiet, and where the water goes

52 decibels or under with sleep mode running the fan at low speed only. Underneath sit two drainage options, manual and continuous, with an overflow cut-off that stops the unit when the tank is full. At 118 pints a day, continuous drainage is the one to set up.

What you get

Up to 118 pints a day

The highest dehumidifying rate in this range, into dedicated dehumidifier territory.

Cooling and heating

15,000 BTU of cooling and 11,500 BTU of heating across the same 61 to 88 F set range.

10,800 BTU SACC over 800 sq ft

The seasonally adjusted rating and the cooling area the manufacturer quotes.

74 degree automatic louvre

The top opens itself when the unit starts and closes when it stops.

Three ways to control it

A touch panel, a remote that reaches 26 ft, and a phone app. All three reach the same settings.

Overflow protection

Shuts the unit off when the water tank is full, with manual or continuous drainage available.

Who is this perfect for?

Damp basements and lower floors

Up to 118 pints a day is more than most standalone dehumidifiers manage, and continuous drainage means it can run unattended.

Large rooms used all year

800 sq ft of cooling area and 11,500 BTU of heating, so the same machine covers a studio or a den from spring to autumn.

Households that control everything from a phone

App, remote and touch panel all reach the same settings, so nothing is stranded behind one of them.

Frequently asked questions

Can it replace a dehumidifier?

Its dry mode is rated at up to 118 pints a day, which is higher than most standalone dehumidifiers sold for domestic use. Unlike a dehumidifier it also vents its heat outside through the exhaust hose rather than releasing it back into the room, which is the usual complaint about running a dehumidifier in summer.

Does it need a dedicated circuit?

It runs on a standard 115V, 60Hz household socket, but it draws 12 A while cooling and 11 A while heating. That is close to the continuous limit of an ordinary 15 amp circuit, so use a wall outlet of its own and avoid sharing with other heavy appliances.

How much heating will it give?

11,500 BTU, over the same 61 to 88 F set range as cooling. That suits taking the chill off a large room in spring and autumn. It is not a furnace replacement and it is not designed to carry a room through a Canadian winter.

Which cooling figure should I use for sizing?

The SACC rating of 10,800 BTU. ASHRAE 15,000 BTU comes from a fixed laboratory test, and Danby notes the seasonally adjusted number is generally lower for the same machine. The 800 sq ft cooling area is the manufacturer's own figure and sits at the optimistic end.
