A loft bed six feet tall with a child and a desk under it is a tipping risk, and anchoring hardware is the first thing left in the box when someone is in a hurry to finish the build.

Two anti-toppling kits come with this bed and the manufacturer expects them to be used. Fit them to the wall while the frame is still empty, before the mattress goes up and before the desk fills with things you would have to move again.

The frame is 79.5 by 44 inches on the floor and 72 inches tall. Under the deck there are 56.5 inches of headroom, which is enough for a child to stand and for an adult to sit at the desk without stooping.

A desk the length of the bed

Seventy seven inches of desk at 29 inches from the floor, which is standard desk height, with four storage cubes above it. Most loft desks are a corner. This one runs the whole span, so two people can work at it side by side or one person can spread out with books and a screen.

Under six inches of mattress

The guardrail is twelve inches and the manufacturer caps the mattress under six. That keeps the rail standing at least six inches proud of the sleeping surface on a bed six feet in the air, which is the only figure that really matters up there. Buy the mattress to that limit before the bed arrives.

Fourteen plywood slats across a solid pine frame carrying a published 250 lb, with a four step ladder built in and a 15 inch wide entrance at the top. Two anti-toppling kits come in the box to fix the frame to the wall.
