Sixty eight inches to the top

The frame is 78 by 40.5 inches on the floor and 68 inches tall. Underneath it there are 53.5 inches of headroom, which is enough for a child to stand and for an adult to sit at the desk. The guardrail stands 13 inches above the mattress deck.

Six to eight inches, no more

That limit is what keeps the 13 inch guardrail doing its job. On a loft this tall the rail is the only thing between a sleeping child and a five foot drop, so buying a thick Twin mattress here is not a small compromise.

A desk, not a shelf

The desk runs 39 inches long by 12.5 deep at 28 inches from the floor, which is standard desk height, and a smaller 16 by 6 inch shelf mounts on the post above it. The desk depth is the part to think about, because it takes a laptop comfortably and a monitor on a stand less so.

Twenty three slats and two anchors

The platform is 23 metal slats over a reinforced middle bar, with triangle bracing at the corners and rounded edges on the desk and shelf. Two anti tipping kits are included to fix the frame to the wall, which on a 68 inch loft is not optional.
