The manufacturer's own dimension panel says use with or without box spring. Put the box spring on and the mattress sits higher, or leave it out and use the reinforced slats. Nothing has to be thrown away to make the bed work.

Four details, one of them about noise

Powder coated steel, reinforced slats on stable legs, foam to cut noise where the parts meet and pads under the feet. On a bed built entirely from steel tube, those last two are what separate a quiet frame from a noisy one.

Arches at both ends

The headboard reaches 40 inches and the footboard 26. Both are a row of steel arches rather than a flat panel, so the bed does not block the light from a window behind it the way a solid board would.
