Which side the drawers live on

The note on the panel is the useful part: the drawers work from either side. In a room where the bed has to sit against a wall, both go on the free side. The pulls are shaped out of the drawer front, so there is no metal handle waiting at shin height.

Eight slats, screwed down rather than resting in a channel, with extra legs under the deck. The drawer stoppers are the fourth inset: without them a loaded drawer pushed hard runs right under the bed and has to be fished back.

Pine under the paint

The headboard and footboard are solid pine with a painted finish, not a printed board. On a grey bed that matters, because a chipped paper laminate shows a different colour underneath and a painted solid does not.
