The wings on this headboard come forward at the top and leave a 15 inch recess at floor level on each side. The nightstand sits in that recess, behind the line the drawer travels through, and both stay usable.

The wings step out at the top and leave the lower side of the bed clear. The panel marks that recess at 15 inches, which is what a bedside table needs, and shows the alternative: a table parked over the drawer it is blocking.

Two along each side, each on its own wheels, with a fixture that stops them wandering. Four shallow drawers hold more than two deep ones in practice, because everything in a 4 inch drawer is visible when you open it.

Lights that answer the room

The LED runs off a remote or a phone app. Beyond the colour range there is a microphone mode that reacts to sound and a timer that shuts the strip off after one to four hours, which is the setting most people end up leaving on.
