Bar stools for kitchen islands, breakfast bars and home bars
Valuhub's bar stools collection brings together seating for kitchen islands, breakfast bars and home bars. The range covers counter height, swivel, adjustable and backless designs. Most have a footrest, and many add a backrest or a swivel seat. Together they fit counters from 36 inches (91 cm) to 42 inches (107 cm) high.
Valuhub Canada built this range for home cooks, families and anyone setting up a basement bar. Pair the seats with a kitchen island or a bar table to finish the space. Shoppers who need extra seating can also browse dining chairs.
Bar stools at a glance
Types of bar stools in this collection
Five styles make up the range. Counter height bar stools lead, followed by swivel, adjustable, backless and upholstered designs.
Counter stools
Counter stools are the largest group in the range. Their seats sit 24 to 27 inches (61 to 69 cm) high. That suits a standard 36 inch (91 cm) kitchen counter. Most add a footrest, and many have a backrest in fabric or PU leather. Choose them for a kitchen island that seats the family every day.
Swivel stools
Swivel bar stools turn, so people can face the room or the cook. Many in this range also adjust in height and add a footrest and a curved back. Round metal bases and steel legs are common. Swivel designs suit open plan kitchens where the island is a social spot. Leave extra room around each seat so it can turn freely.
Adjustable height stools
Adjustable height stools let one seat suit more than one surface. The seat moves up or down. A home with a kitchen island and a taller bar can share the same stools. Check each product page for the lowest and highest seat height. Adjustable styles also suit families where children and adults sit at the same counter.
Backless and saddle stools
Backless bar stools and saddle stools have a simple round or saddle seat and no backrest. Backless designs tuck fully under the counter, which saves floor space in a small kitchen. A saddle seat curves to fit the body for short sittings. Choose these for quick breakfasts, craft counters and tight corners, and add a footrest for comfort.
Upholstered stools with backs
Upholstered stools with backs work like bar chairs, giving support for long meals and homework. Seats and backs come in fabric, PU leather, faux leather and linen look finishes. Many sit on wood legs or steel legs. Tufted and cutout backs add a decorative touch. Wipe leather styles clean after spills, and choose fabric for a softer feel.
Check each product page for exact sizes, weight limits and what is included.
How do you choose a bar stool?
Match seat height to the counter
Measure from the floor to the underside of the counter. Subtract 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 cm) to find the right seat height. A 36 inch (91 cm) counter suits a seat near 24 to 26 inches (61 to 66 cm). A 42 inch (107 cm) bar suits a seat near 30 inches (76 cm).
Leave room for each stool
Allow 24 to 30 inches (61 to 76 cm) of counter length per stool, so elbows do not collide. Wider swivel seats need the larger figure. A 6 foot (183 cm) island fits about three stools comfortably.
Pick a backrest and footrest
Choose a backrest for long meals, homework or working at the counter. Choose a backless seat if the stool should tuck fully under the counter. Pick a footrest for any seat above 24 inches (61 cm), because it rests the legs.
Check the material and care
Fabric feels soft and suits quiet homes. PU leather and faux leather wipe clean after spills, which helps in family kitchens. Wood legs add warmth, while steel legs add strength. Read the care notes on each product page.
Where do bar stool sets work best?
Kitchen islands are the most common home for these stools. Kitchen island stools in a set of 2 or 3 fit along one side of a standard island. That leaves room to walk behind. Choose wipe clean seats where children eat breakfast, and browse kitchen and dining furniture for matching tables and storage.
Home bars and basement lounges call for taller seating. Bar height stools have a seat near 30 inches (76 cm). That suits a 42 inch (107 cm) bar top. A matching bar cabinet or one of our bar sets keeps the corner looking planned.
Small apartments and breakfast nooks suit backless or saddle seats that slide fully under a breakfast bar. Guests at a raised dining table sit comfortably on stools with backs and a footrest. The main table keeps its usual chairs.
How do you set up and care for a bar stool?
Set each stool on a level floor and check the seat for wobble before sitting. Tighten the screws after the first week, then every few months. Wipe PU leather and faux leather with a damp cloth, and vacuum fabric seats. Felt pads under the legs protect hardwood floors.

Bar stool FAQs
What is the difference between counter height and bar height stools?
Counter height stools have seats 24 to 27 inches (61 to 69 cm) high. They suit counters near 36 inches (91 cm). Bar height stools have seats 28 to 33 inches (71 to 84 cm) high. They suit bars near 42 inches (107 cm). Measure your counter first, then match the seat height.
How high should a bar stool be?
A bar stool seat should sit 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 cm) below the counter. A 36 inch (91 cm) counter suits a seat near 24 to 26 inches (61 to 66 cm). A 42 inch (107 cm) bar suits a seat near 30 inches (76 cm).
How many stools fit at a kitchen island?
Plan about 24 to 30 inches (61 to 76 cm) of counter length per stool. A 6 foot (183 cm) island fits about three stools comfortably. An 8 foot (244 cm) island fits about four. Wider swivel seats need the larger spacing.
Are swivel stools better than fixed stools?
Swivel stools suit open plan kitchens, because people can turn toward the room or the cook. Fixed stools feel steadier and use less floor space. Choose swivel for social islands and fixed seats for tight corners. Leave extra clearance so swivel seats turn freely.
Do I need a backrest or a footrest?
A backrest helps during long meals, homework or work at the counter. Backless seats tuck fully under the counter and save space. A footrest is worth having on any seat above 24 inches (61 cm). It rests the legs and steadies the sitter.
